Jonathan Portero-Brown (P/T)
Jonathan has been teaching in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 25 years, helping students develop
confidence, teamwork, and a love for movement. His time with Sports4Kids/Playworks gave him the
opportunity to introduce fun and engaging activities—like icebreakers, cooperative games, evasion games,
conflict resolution strategies, and developmental sports leagues—that help make school playgrounds more
inclusive and active spaces.
In his younger years, Jonathan played college lacrosse and rugby at UC Santa Cruz, which deepened his
passion for athletics and teamwork. Currently, he’s a PE teacher working with elementary school students,
helping them build physical skills, coordination, and a sense of community through play.
A decade ago, Jonathan discovered Bal-A-Vis-X and became fascinated by its use of rhythm and balance in
movement. That curiosity led him to attend my first workshop in Seattle, and it has since become an
important part of his teaching approach. When he’s not teaching, he’s enjoying spending time with his family
and their three dogs.
